1 DebWrt - Debian on embedded devices
1= DebWrt - Debian on embedded devices =

3DebWrt is all about running Debian GNU/Linux on embedded devices, for example wireless routers. DebWrt connects two very powerful technologies:  Debian and OpenWrt. Debian has a great package management system and includes thousands of packages for many architectures. OpenWrt has great Linux kernel support for many embedded devices. Bringing these two strengths together opens a whole new world of possibilities. It is greatly underestimated what these embedded devices are capable of. Running Debian on these devices can turn it into something more than it was supposed to be. It is just one apt-get install away.

    4 Debwrt is
5  * an OpenWRT kernel plus Debian root filesystem
    6  * a build environment

7DebWrt provides downloadable image for a growing list of devices. Flash the device and create a root filesystem and your device is running DebWrt. Users are encouraged to build DebWrt for their device using the DebWrtSvn build environment and upload the images which in turn can be downloaded by other users with the same hardware.

11 The OpenWRT project tunes Linux kernel for residentail gateways,
    12 a.k.a. ''routers''.
13 Debwrt tells that kernel, during build time,
    14 to use the {{{root filesystem}}} on an {{{USB storage device}}}.
15 (Openwrt uses an filesystem on on-board (flash)memory.)
    16
    17 = Debian root filesystem =
    18
19 This gives you all packages available in Debian,
20 including the {{{aptitude}}} packaging system.
11DebWrt provides generic Debian root filesystem images for several architectures.

24 DebWrt is a source tree that is a ''layer''
25 over OpenWrt and also over {{{debootstrap}}}.
15The build environment is a complex environment encapsulating OpenWrt, Emdebian and Debian, using advanced chrooting, debootstrapping and cross compiling techniques. It support
    2616
    27 Cross-compiling support
     17It builds for your architecture:
     18
19   * Kernel firmware using OpenWrt
20   * Kernel modules using OpenWrt
     21   * Debian root filesysem
22   * Packages ported to debian
     23
     24It provides your architecture:
     25
26   * Emdebian Cross compile environment out of the box
