Description

Would like to see these openwrt patches found here: https://lists.openwrt.org/pipermail/openwrt-devel/2011-February/009637.html integrated into a debwrt build for the rt-n16. Currently it appears that the device is unbootable with current builds.

Unfortunately OpenWrt is not yet supporting the RT-N16 according to their wiki page ( http://wiki.openwrt.org/inbox/asusrt-n16 ). If you have (found) patches, please try them first with plain OpenWrt. If that works, you will probably succeed in getting DebWrt to run on it. See DebWrtSvn on how to build DebWrt yourself. Documentation is still a little low yet on the DebWrt dev env. OpenWrt patches should be applied manually once after:

make menuconfig
make openwrt/prepare

Please create a wiki page if you succeed in getting it to work on DebWrt, so others may benefit from your work.

Earlier comments on this ticket have been deleted. Hoping to set a new tone.

Support for this device depends on OpenWrt. Closing enhancement ticket as invalid since it is beyond the current scope of the DebWrt project.

To bring you up to speed on what's already been done, there are 3 patches out there which when applied to a revision up to and including 26126 in openwrt create the proper targets for brcm4716 based devices and produce a fully functioning image.

In Debwrt my approach so far has been to modify the openwrt.mk file to automatically apply these patches after applying the makeemptyrootfs patch, change the svn command to retrieve 26126 and modify .config in the top level directory that is created when running make menuconfig to refect the brcm4716 target. These however do not produce a working image at this time.

Thank you for your willingness to revisit this and set a "new tone", it is noted and much appreciated!

There are new patches to build with current trunk found here... http://www.znau.edu.ua/temp/asus-rt-n16/2011-05-18T00-05

Thanks, I've created an image with these already actually. Just waiting on ticket 116 issue to be resolved as this exact same issue is stopping me from being able to create the rootfs. Will share my results when available...

Replying to shinton@…:

Could you possibly post your modified files so I could have a go at compiling myself?

Have at it, just replace the Config, Openwrt & Config.in folder/files with the ones in the archive. Please note that running make menuconfig will show r261 as this is the revision these were created on but it is merely cosmetic, they will work with the latest revision. Currenty they do not produce a working image. Do you have a serial cable? Any help in this area with debigging would be appreciated.

FYI: What I did was work my way through the Config.in file and create targets for the brcm4716 in it and any linked files. As well I edited the openwrt.mk file to automatically apply the latest patches and chmod +x the correct folder (from Readme).

If anyone is still routed to this page the rt-n16 is now user supported, see here: http://dev.debwrt.net/wiki/AsusRT-N16

  • Milestone set to 12.09
  • Priority changed from major to minor
  • Resolution changed from invalid to fixed

User support for RT-N16 is there. And currently OpenWrt seems to have native support for it as well.
